Foreign Licence
People moving to Switzerland who are in possession of a diver's licence (Führerausweis) must have it converted to a Swiss driver's licence within 12 months. In order to do so, a request must be submitted to the Basel-Stadt vehicle inspection department (Motorfahrzeugkontrolle). Depending on the country of origin, different rules may apply. A driving test or theory exam may be necessary. The Basel-Stadt vehicle inspection department provides further information.
